How does LGEF work with your Home & School Club?
LGEF, Music Boosters, and our five Home & School Clubs (Blossom Hill, Daves Avenue, Lexington, Van Meter and Fisher) have joined together to consolidate back-to-school fundraising into a single campaign. Your contribution still goes to the same place it always has - directly to your school to fund vital programs and essential staff. We have simply streamlined the process to make it easier for you to donate once.
LGEF Elementary Grants 2020-21
$698,700 Elementary Programs
Elementary Literacy Specialists
Literacy support for those students with need is an essential part of a well-rounded education. Our Literacy specialists work one-on-one with students and also with students in groups, to aide students to gain literacy skills and achieve confidence in reading. Our specialists are highly trained individuals who also work with classroom teachers to model strategies that work for all reading levels. LGEF contributes towards Literacy Specialists at all four elementary schools. Read more about what our Literacy Specialists do including photos and quotes. Elementary Math Specialists
Similar to our literacy specialists, the math specialists work directly with students who need additional assistance to develop their mathematical capacities. Math specialists also provide ongoing classroom support to teachers by providing model lessons based on a variety of different instructional strategies, and by collaborating with teachers to meet the needs of every student. LGEF contributes towards Math Specialists at all four elementary schools. Elementary Music
LGEF funds exceptional elementary music education. In Kindergarten, students concentrate on music and movement. The first and second grades focus on sounds, counting and singing. By third grade, students have the opportunity to learn the recorder. Fourth graders become familiar with the violin. Fifth graders are offered a choice of flute, clarinet, trumpet, trombone, violin, cello, voice or percussion and can prepare for the many Middle School music options. Elementary Art Teacher
LGEF funds elementary art education at all four schools. Here are a few examples: In Kindergarten, students read The Leaf Man by Lois Ehlert and create their own collage of a creature from collected leaves. In third grade, students paint a watercolor of birch trees during their favorite season, and select the colors for their landscapes according to the season they choose. In fifth grade students use Georgia O’Keefe’s technique of zooming in on object to create a detailed section of that object. To learn more about K-5 art lessons and see samples of students’ artwork, visit art teacher Kelly Martin’s blog. Elementary Library Media Specialists
Our school libraries touch every child and are an essential part of the educational experience. The Library is an essential place of calm that all students can access during outdoor recess hours. Our libraries are maintained by our wonderful Library Media Specialists who provide individualized reading suggestions to students. Our librarians are also great storytellers, and every classroom attends library once a week to listen to a story. Librarians inspire and encourage our student’s interest in children’s literature, in order to develop a life-long love of reading. LGEF contributes towards Library Media Specialists at all four elementary schools. Elementary PE Specialists
Our PE specialists also interact with every student on every campus. In collaboration with the classroom teachers, the PE specialists focus on teaching students strategies for physical and personal growth, and by encouraging a positive attitude towards skill development. PE Specialists work on teamwork and controlled competitiveness, and organize exciting games to help our students develop their skills while having lots of fun. LGEF contributes towards PE specialists at our elementary schools. Strategic Plan Innovation Grants

LGEF Middle School Grants 2020-21
$424,300 Middle School Programs
Donations to LGEF at Fisher Middle School are essential for every student on campus by making the electives program possible; supporting teachers in Dance, Music and STEAM. These programs help children child explore their passions. Donations also support the school counselors and the Emotional Wellness program (delivered via CASSY), the Health Clerk, and the Noon Time Sports leagues.
Middle School Dance Elective
LGEF helps fund the Fisher Middle School Dance teacher, Wendy Meyer. Students in the 6th grade wheel will do a Dance segment focusing on the elements of ballet, hip-hop and jazz style dancing. In 7 & 8th grade, students can select the dance elective, and audition for Open Dance or Advanced Dance. Seventh and eighth grade dancers study contemporary, lyrical, and Broadway movements in detail. All dance students learn to create original pieces of choreography to further develop performance confidence and expression. There is also an award-winning Competitive Dance Team at Fisher, called Dance Pursuit, led by Wendy Meyer. Middle School Music Elective
Your donation to LGEF helps fund the Fisher Middle School Music teachers: Jenny Anderson (Band), Cameron Clarno (Choir), and Aryn Krijnen (Orchestra). More than 40% of Fisher students take Music as their elective choice. There are at least five performances by the Fisher Middle School music students a year, including local events such as the Los Gatos Holiday Parade, and festivals hosted by the California Music Educators Association (CMEA). The list of awards of this amazing group of students is too long to include and we hope you can join for a concert even if your student is not a performer. Middle School STEAM Elective
Your donation to LGEF helps fund the Middle School STEAM teacher, and the STEAM segments of the 6th grade wheel. Students explore STEAM in the 6th grade wheel elective first through a coding segment taught by the 6th grade Math team (Alicia Barton and Brandi Nelson), and a digital art segment taught by Cesar Anzaldo. In 7th & 8th grade, students can choose the STEAM elective. Yixiao Zhang is new to Fisher in 2019-2020 and will be teaching 3 sections of the STEAM elective plus a Genius Hour class. The STEAM elective teaches students to work collaboratively to solve problems, think logically and encourage creativity. In addition, the STEAM teacher leads the STEAM showcase in May to show off the awesome creations of our students. Middle School Noon-Time Sports
Your donation to LGEF funds Noon Sports Coordinators. During each year approximately 400 Fisher students participate in noon sports; a great way for students to have fun in a structured and engaging environment. Each sport is promoted in PE classes and all students are invited to sign up. Our highly skilled facilitators put together teams, create the brackets and kick off the season with a rules and expectations meeting. On game days students have time to eat during the first portion of lunchtime and then report to the gym or field for the contest. The kids love it! Strategic Plan Innovation Grants
